La Real Academia Española recoge en el diccionario de la lengua la siguiente descripción del término torca: “depresión circular con bordes escarpados en un terreno”. En el argot geológico apuntillan algo más: “Depresión circular y con bordes escarpados, desarrollada en la superficie de un terreno calcáreo”.
Sobre el título de este artículo apuntillamos que en la Serranía de Ronda a los “torcales” se les han conocido como “riscales” de toda la vida. Preocupa pues, esa costumbre tan de moda ahora de “rebautizar” lo que ya tiene nombre, haciendo un flaco favor a la memoria histórica, a la tradición y a la toponimia del lugar.
